Anna Pavlova, an animal lover from a very young age, had many pets as an adult, Some being swans, different birds, cats, and dogs. She was especially fond of of bulldog breeds. She even brought to Russia a bulldog that was not native to Russia but from England that she loved. Anna Pavlova had throughout her life many dogs, some bulldog breeds and others different. She loved all of them, and there are so many photos of her with her dogs documented.

One in particular, where there are many photographs, was her beloved dog Poppy, a Boston Terrier. Poppy and Pavlova were inseparable, and she took Poppy with her everywhere, especially on her Ballet Company tours. There is even a photo of them both swimming together on Christmas in Puerto Rico. Poppy was very dear to Pavlova, and when Poppy passed, she felt a great void in her life because Poppy would no longer be accompanying her on her tours.  Poppy was not only precious family to Pavlova but Poppy was also her best friend.

Her husband assured her later that another dog would come into Anna Pavlova's life, and indeed so many did that she gave a loving home to and they stayed by her side wherever she went.  Pavlova's beloved dogs were all treated like family and always included in her daily life.

Poppy, however, that little dog would always have a special place in Anna Pavlova's heart.

"Trailing her every step is Mme Pavlova's bulldog. That dog keeps an affectionate eye on his mistress constantly. She also is fond of the dog, and the two are great pals." - Quote from a Critic from the Los Angeles Examiner about Anna Pavlova and her Boston Terrier Poppy.
